Currently accepting owner surrender:
Yes. It is an open admission shelter. They accept owner surrender animals, but people have to call to schedule an appointment to bring them in.
Procedure for pet relinquishment:
San Diego Humane Society campuses take in owner-surrender pets by appointment only. To schedule appointment, please call 619-299-7012. Have the pet’s medical records available when you call. Pets should be up to date on vaccines prior to entering the shelter.
A fee to accept the animal:
If you live in San Diego Humane Society’s jurisdiction, there is a $30 relinquishment fee to help cover the cost of care.
If you live outside our jurisdiction, the fee is $250 and our ability to accept relinquished pets depends on availability.
Preference for the age of the animal:
They accept animals of all ages.
Solutions used in situation of going over capacity:
They work with numerous rescue partners in our community to transfer animals out to their rescues.
Placement of the animals:
Animas are housed in kennels and foster care.
Euthanasia:
We are zero euthanasia for healthy, treatable animals.
