Currently accepting owner surrender:
We are at capacity, so for us to take in a new dog a foster home would have to become available.
Procedure for pet relinquishment:
Starts with an online application found on our website. https://westcoastboxerrescue.org/surrender
The owner will be contacted by the rescue. Since currently they are full, they can work with owners that can hold the dog while they try to find an adopter. But this process can take months, so it doesn’t work for everyone. For owners who choose to accept it, they post the dog and their information on our internal network and external website. They will vet applications according to our adoption process and if its a match, coordinate a time to have the dog surrendered to the rescue and then shortly after adopted in their new home.
A fee to accept the animal:
There is no fee, but they do ask for donations especially if the dog needs to be spayed or neutered, or needs the vaccinations.
Preference for the age of the animal:
No preference but seniors are typically harder to adopt out than younger dogs.
Solutions used in situation of going over capacity:
They don’t have a capacity other than open foster placements, so they make sure that every accepted dog has foster family before they are accepted. There may be a circumstance where they don’t have a place for the dog to go and they will pay for the dog to go to a boarding facility.
Placement of the animals:
They are mostly foster based. If a dog needs medical care they may be house at the vet partner during that time.
